Caroline Richards

I live in the heart of the Broads with my husband and two teenage daughters. Being born and bred in Norfolk, I’m very proud of our county and enjoy welcoming couples to our many amazing venues. I have a background in law and having worked as a Registrar in both Buckinghamshire and Norfolk for over 7 years, I’ve gained a valuable insight into what makes a great ceremony (and what doesn’t!) and I look forward to helping you with your own special celebration.

I love living in North Norfolk, near the sea, where I was a Registrar for over 5 years. Having worked in both the public and private sectors, and successfully run my own business, I’ve always enjoyed working with people. It wasn’t until my husband and I decided to marry in Norfolk, in a ceremony led by a celebrant friend, that I realised how personal and special a wedding could be. This is something I try to bring to all my ceremonies, by carefully listening and delivering the ceremony you’ve helped create.

“Our ceremony was so uniquely us and for that, we thank you”

Made personal to you

The Ceremony People are a small, Norfolk-based team of independent family celebrants. We’re like-minded former Ceremonies Registrars, with over 14 years of experience and knowledge to share with you on every aspect of your ceremony. Whilst most registrars do a good job, there are endless restrictions they are obliged to comply with. We found it frustrating, and decided the time had come to move away from all the limitations and become independent.

It’s better for you too, as from the moment you pick up the phone you’ll be speaking to one of us, not an impersonal call centre. That means we can answer your questions and tell you straight away if your chosen date is available, with no waiting around. We’re always at the end of the phone whenever you, or your venue, need to speak to us – even at weekends and evenings, as we’re not limited to normal office hours. To put your mind at rest, we’re fully insured too.

Being a part of someone’s celebration is a privilege, and one we never take for granted. We love what we do and are passionate about providing you with a unique and engaging ceremony that’s just right for you – one to remember for all the right reasons. We have a comprehensive understanding of the delivery, mechanics and choreography of a ceremony, of how to command an audience and ensure everything flows smoothly from beginning to end. And as former registrars, we’re able to advise you on all the legal aspects of registering your marriage too.

Our ceremonies, whether they are Wedding, Namings or Renewal of Vows, are not just a standard script – they are truly personal to you, and we’re here to help and guide you every step of the way. You’ll meet us at the beginning of the process, and then be in contact with us as much or as little as you like, building a relationship with us over the months, until the day of your ceremony. So when the day arrives, you have the confidence of knowing you’ll be greeted by the reassuring face of someone you know.

We’ll conduct run-throughs to ensure we’re ready and well-rehearsed, yet will react spontaneously to things that occur during the ceremony, and we’ll touch base with you the week before to confirm the final arrangements.

We like everyone to feel involved with the proceedings, so we’ll arrive early to orchestrate everything. We have a good working relationship with all of our venues and we’ll liaise with them, the musicians and the wedding party to ensure they all know what’s happening. We’ll work with your photographers too, to make sure they can capture all the magical moments of your ceremony, with none of the usual restrictions.

It all adds up to a complete, comprehensive and stress-free service, tailored to you, which you just won’t get with a local authority registrar.
